There has been some discussion around town about City Council candidates receiving funds and an endorsement from the Create Jobs PAC and that we are a “special interest.”
This is absolutely true. Our interest is in making Salem the healthiest city in Oregon. To that end, we (through the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce) actively work to strengthen non-profits, our public and private schools and political leaders.
We know that the single best way that we can accomplish our special interest is to make sure that those who want to work, have a job, job security and wages/benefits that provide discretionary income. To that end, we investigated all of the candidates to see who is best suited to support policies that create more jobs in our community. Almost all of the candidates worked to obtain our endorsement and resources (Xue Lor in Ward 6 is the one exception). When some did not receive the endorsement or funds, they criticized those who did.
The endorsement/support doesn’t contain any strings, but is based on the candidate’s past performance as an indication of future success.
